Transitioning From Bowing to Vamping

I’m looking for a quick an easy way to transition from bowing to vamping. Any ideas?
I have trouble quickly changing from the bow to simply chopping chords. Sometimes I find it helpful to chop chords on the fiddle when I’m not leading the melody, especially when a mandolin is not present, but I have trouble getting my bow out of the way quickly enough and holding it sufficiently in order to chop chords.
Would appreciate any tips you might have to offer.
