Hi All,

I'm a newbie at FH and pretty new to fiddling as well. I recently found the above tune played by Dave Dupplaw on YouTube a few months back and have been trying to learn it more or less  by ear.

There's a few different versions of this song with sheet music on The Sessions web site, but I'm wondering if anyone hers knows of other sources/ sheet music/guitar chords for this tune?

Here's the YouTube address

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAv19e7LuZc

Really have been enjoying all the resources of the FH website.

Ok, i know what Tabledit tab looks like. But i've got a fiddle chord (double stop) book/dictionary from Melbay, where the depictions are vertical. Like guitar chord charts. Similar to that found above standard notation in some hymnals. There was a request for fiddle tab. But i recon'd the solution was chords/doublestops. It would be nice to group together the chord progression (I, IV, V, etc.) as several of these little chord charts, but of course for fiddle. Is there a place where these fiddle chords are published and could possibly copy/paste from? I don't want to re-invent the wheel. Thanks in advance.

Looking for Old Carpenter's Waltz

I'd like to find a MIDI, ABC or Sheet Music for Old Carpenter's Waltz

Thanks for any leads.

I learned this at camp a few years ago, but the audio recordings I have are pretty bad. I heard the tune again the other day at the same camp and forgot how much I liked the tune.

Here are a few interpretations of it.

B part to "Shady Grove"?

Yesterday I was jamming/swapping tunes with a fellow who was playing Clawhammer banjo (I was on fiddle). He played a nice version of Shady Grove, and I played along..BUT...then he got to a B part, and honestly I never remember Shady Grove as having a B part...I struggled along for awhile and sort of got something.

Afterwards I asked where he had got that and he said a David Holt recording.  I told him I'd work on that one bit for the next time we played.

Anyway, I'm looking for notation or a source recording of Shady Grove with A and B parts on fiddle.

Any suggestions?

Heard a couple of ladies play a sweet tune they called Sheguinda Bay. They said it was Canadian. I can't find any free reference to it online. Suggestions to find a source and/or sheet music?

How do I go about getting certain videos being played that I can down load some where I can go back and practice with, like this one that I requested from Gary Sizemore the "dry and Dusty" tune and several others by Ian walsh?

Kinlock of Kinlock

The fiddle group I play with here in northeastern CT played Kinlock of Kinlock last night and I was wondering if anyone here at FH might have a rendition I could listen to. I did a site search of the forum and got absolute zero. Surprising since I thought this was a traditional Scotish jig. Maybe, being a newbie, I didn't perform my search correctly.

Oh yeah, I also check YT and only found one recording done on a mountain dulcimer.

Response to my last question was under-whelming so I'm hoping for a better response on this one.

Hey Guys, I am trying to play the song Long Hot Summer Day by the Turnpike Troubadours and I can't manage to compose a solid version of the fiddle part. I can read music and tabs but not very good at playing what I hear. I would really appreciate any help in playing the fiddle part! Even if it's a suggestion...

Heres an youtube version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkCCNuHUF-s

Thanks!

P.S. this band is out to blowup!!

Loudin Wainwright - Hollywood Hopeful

Recently I was asking the forum about the the John Prine song "Paradise", specifically whether Prine borrowed the melody from a old time song.  But I got to thinking maybe I was thinking about the Loudin Wainwright song where he sings about "Never thought I'd see so many TV stars, never thought I'd see so many rented cars. Never thought I'd see so many desperate eyes. Never thought I'd hear so many bold face lies".  I think the LP jacket attributed the tune to a traditional Appalachian tune.  But to add to my confusion, I found the Wainwright song "Hollywood Hopeful"  in his catalog, the lyrics match, but this is not the tune I remember.   Did Wainwright release these lyrics under a different title and tune?

Hey, here it is with the tune I remember http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTtNwKwBe6Y

Milo's video

WOW, I'm impressed and I've never heard of the guy.  Don't often watch the videos posted on the FHO home page, but I guess I was bored.

Does anyone know if Milo notate's his music?  I'm going to learn the melodic version first then try to transcribe what he's doing.  That worked well for me on Woodchoppers Reel.  Big question is what key is Dixie Hoedown usually played in?  I'm interested in the song more for bluegrass than old time, if there's a difference.  I think I've seen banjo players do it capoed to A and playing out of the G position.  The video starts in G but transposes when the fiddle starts to A.

The video is now gone from the FHO home page, so here it is...

new tune to learn

My fiddle teacher said it's time for me to advance to more notty tunes and suggested I learn Jerusalem Ridge. I found it in G, Em, and Am so which is the best one and easiest to learn? I also need a waltz and I think that will be Lovers Waltz. I already know part of it and have listened to Jay Unger play it and its'a beautiful waltz and I don't believe I've heard it at any competition.

I did see a previous post from some years ago listing waltzes but only liked the sound of a couple of them. Any good fiddle waltz cds out there I can get. I need to listen to a tune first, not just pick one and try to learn it.

Gypsy Fiddle played by Andy Stein

Does anyone know where I can find sheet music for the song "Gypsy Fiddle" played by Andy Stein on the 1975 Commander Cody Album Tales from the Ozone. Composer credits say "Andy Stein/Traditional." It's been recorded on several other albums by him and other players. Scythian played it at the 2009 Merlefest, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ-iI01wAk8 This song actually got me interested in picking the violin up again when I first heard it in 1975. I've never been able to find any sheet music for it. I suspect it's a traditional tune, and probably common in some circles, but it has eluded me so far. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jerry

Oftentimes, I,ve accessed member pages to discover music that they have uploaded that i find very pleasing to the point that I would very much like to learn it....however, if I dont record the name of the individual i have trouble finding he or she at a later date...is there a way i can retain a members profile (music) , in a file on the computer which would allow for immediate access? (my computer skills could be catagorized as novice)
